Abstract

PATINO VILLA, Carlos Alberto. US-Russia: towards a geopolitics reconfiguration of Latin America and the Wider Caribbean?. anal.polit. [online]. 2014, vol.27, n.82, pp.196-211. ISSN 0121-4705.  https://doi.org/10.15446/anpol.v27n82.49414.

Since the end of the Cold War, in December 1991, the geopolitical supremacy of the United States in Latin America and the wider Caribbean seemed to be solid and any competition of others powers in these hemispherical areas was so far discarded. Nevertheless, global powers such as China, Russia and Iran become strong in the zone with creating both commercial agreements and strategic alliances, which include an active weapons market. In this new scene, Russia has taken an important initiative and a growing projection that challenges increasingly the US supremacy on the hemisphere.

Keywords : Geopolitics; Latin America; weapon market; Russia; United States.
