This article examines the electoral political behavior of the department of Magdalena from the election results in favor of the House of Representatives, for the period between the elections from 1998 to 2014.There are two axs that frames the research results of the article. Firstly, it discusses how the phenomenon of clientelism has permeated political structures in this region, where the existence of traditional families of the Liberal Party and Conservative has facilitated the consolidation of clientelist networks. Secondly, we performed a study of the electoral behavior of the Magdalena based on the application of different indices showed that electoral trends, ruptures and characteristic patterns of such behavior.
