This article documents some characteristic features of the Democratic Center (Centro Democrático or CD, in Spanish) party, a new political party that came into existence in Colombia as of 2013 under the leadership of ex-president Álvaro Uribe Vélez. Based on official texts from the CD, surveys conducted by LAPOP, and articles from magazines and newspapers, this article describes and seeks to analyze the process by which the party was formed, its principal organizational features, the ideological orientation of its supporters, its performance in the 2014 legislative and presidential elections and, looking towards the future, its main strengths and weaknesses.
