This paper analyses the different candidate selection mechanism used by political parties to face subnational electoral arena, pointing out the different methods, the selectorate quality and the applicant's requirements. This factors changes according to power centers position within party (who take the decision), as well as the way it is processing the internal struggles for holding this privilege (tensions between national and subnational leaders). To get this goal, authors used party candidate selection experience in 2015 local elections authorities, specifically in Medellin`s council and Antioquia`s Assembly.
