Abstract
GOLDSTEIN, Ariel. THE PREFECT STORM: CRISES AND IMPEACHMENT DURING DILMA ROUSSEFF'S SECOND TERM. anal.polit. [online]. 2016, vol.29, n.88, pp.90-104. ISSN 0121-4705. https://doi.org/10.15446/anpol.v29n88.63639.
This article seeks to analyze the advent and consolidation of the different economic, political and social crises which led to the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff (2014-2016) during her second term. With the convergence of these crises in a "perfect storm", the "Lulist" social contract, which had assured the coalition led by the Partido de los Trabajadores (the Workers' Party, PT)'s ability to govern during this period, would be dismantled. To accomplish the foregoing analysis, a brief review of the trajectory of the four PT governments will be undertaken. Insofar as the successful impeachment ended a thirteen year cycle of PT governance, the elaboration of an interim account concerning the possibilities that this political process enabled, as well as its limitations, was considered appropriate. While this effort lacks both historical perspective and systemic analysis, it provides preliminary elucidation concerning events relevant to occurrences in the country with the greatest geopolitical weight in South America.
