Abstract

GARZON VALLEJO, Iván. THE POSSIBLE TRUTH.KETCH OF A HETERODOX THEORY OF MEMORY AND HISTORICAL TRUTH IN TRANSITIONAL JUSTICE. anal.polit. [online]. 2018, vol.31, n.93, pp.149-168. ISSN 0121-4705.  https://doi.org/10.15446/anpol.v31n93.75622.

This paper identifies the limits of memory and historical truth in the context of transitional justice. In the first part, a comparative description is made of the multiple forms of truth that assumed some truth commissions in the world and emphasize their contradictions. The second part proposes an outline of the concept of “possible truth”, that is, a truth of a political nature that avoids the essentialization and instrumentalization of memory and historical truth through the discussion of the concepts of irony and insipidity (Safranski), forgetfulness (Ricoeur and Rieff), pluralism (Gray), consensus and interpretation (Vattimo).

Keywords : Truth Comission; memory; historical truth; transitional justice; peacebulding.
