Abstract

RESTREPO, Catalina. SOCIAL NETWORKS AND POLITICAL PARTICIPATION IN THE 2022 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN COLOMBIA. anal.polit. [online]. 2023, vol.36, n.106, pp.133-164.  Epub Oct 07, 2023. ISSN 0121-4705.  https://doi.org/10.15446/anpol.v36n106.111058.

This article analyzes the use of social networks and their relationship with political participation. To do so, it examined the results of the 2022 Survey of the Political Communication Research Center of the Universidad Externado de Colombia, developed with the support of the University of Wisconsin and the General Registry of the Nation. The article studied how citizens used social networks to express their opinions on politics and learn about candidates, parties, and relevant political issues in the context of the electoral campaign. The research shows the potential of using social networks to increase political participation. In addition, the results are analyzed with the crosstabs of gender and age range variables to see whether they influence the use of social networks and the democratization of politics.

Keywords : social networks; political participation; elections; digital communication; democracy.
