Abstract

PARRA RESTREPO, Juan Camilo. THE NARRATIVES OF POWER. IVÁN DUQUE’S COMMUNICATIONAL STRATEGIES IN HIS SPEECHES ON THE FINAL PEACE AGREEMENT DURING HIS PRESIDENTIAL TERM (2018-2022). anal.polit. [online]. 2023, vol.36, n.106, pp.211-233.  Epub Oct 09, 2023. ISSN 0121-4705.  https://doi.org/10.15446/anpol.v36n106.111075.

This article addresses the communication strategies of Iván Duque during his presidential term from 2018-2022 regarding the peace agreement signed between the Colombian State and the guerrilla group FARC-EP. A methodological triangulation was carried out based on the framing technique between critical discourse analysis (CDA) and content analysis (CA) to study a sample of 126 speeches, including addresses and interventions in national and foreign events. Regarding the findings, on the international stage, Duque strategically linked peace with legality, prioritizing the securitization of drug trafficking to position himself as the “savior” of a peace process associated by him with the connotation of fragility. On the national stage, he relied on the figure of the hero who pursued justice to achieve a future without impunity, framing his interventions in the rhetoric of political asepsis or the de-ideologization of political practice.

Keywords : communication strategies; Peace Agreement; Critical Discourse Analysis; framing discourse.
