Abstract
RODRIGUEZ PICO, Clara Rocío and GUZMAN SIERRA, Harold Andrés. EXPERT ASSESSMENT AND THE PUBLIC PERSPECTIVE ON COLOMBIAN DEMOCRACY. anal.polit. [online]. 2025, vol.38, n.111, pp.113-135. Epub Dec 31, 2025. ISSN 0121-4705. https://doi.org/10.15446/anpol.v38n111.125128.
In a global context characterized by the decline of democracy, this article reflects on the Colombian case, asking to what extent the assessments of academics and experts, reflected in four important international indices (Varieties of Democracy, V-Dem; Freedom House, FH; The Economic Intelligence Unit’s Democracy Index (EIU) and The Global State of Democracy of International IDEA, IDEA), align or contrast with the views that Colombians themselves have expressed in various opinion polls. As has been observed in other countries, the results show a gap between the two assessments, with the public expressing greater skepticism than experts regarding the quality, performance, and functioning of the political regime.
Keywords : Democracy; Political representation; Colombia.
