Three problems are critically analysed in this paper: 1. The increasing and at times excessive specialization in areas of theoretical and applied economics can have negative effects on the advance of knowledge and improvement of modern economies. 2. Given the absence of theoretical and emprical advances, the discussion in order to choose development models is carried out more based on specific interests and ideological prejudices than on criteria based on justice. 3. It can be predicted tha t there is going to be a great problem for Latin-American societies given the structural difficulties in order to create future employment.
