Dissemination of knowledge, as a source of technological innovation, requires spaces (cities and regions) fostering interaction between individuals and firms. Analysing patterns of specialisation and diversification and the competitive setting for Colombian industries in different regions of the country with their rates of growth enables the type of environment favouring the dissemination of knowledge to be determined.
