Abstract

ROJAS, Luis Alejandro. THE IMPACT OF PATENTS ON PROVIDING ELECTRICITY IN BOGOTÁ. Cuad. Econ. [online]. 2005, vol.24, n.43, pp.161-196. ISSN 0121-4772.

Colombian authorities have induced electricity supply companies to use new technology compatible with the high levels of quality required for offering such service. These companies have bought equipment which comes with patents concerning the process which are recognised by the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce for twenty years. The optimum duration of patents for three types of equipment, in the conditions prevailing in Bogotá, is determined in this article and the cost for this warranty period is compared to optimum duration.

Keywords : intellectual property; patent; electricity supply.
