Abstract

DVOSKIN, Ariel  and  FELDMAN, Germán. The unbalanced productive structure: An assessment of Marcelo Diamand's contributions to economic theory.. Cuad. Econ. [online]. 2015, vol.34, n.64, pp.5-22. ISSN 0121-4772.  https://doi.org/10.15446/cuad.econ.v34n64.46040.

The present article examines the contributions of the Argentine structuralist economist Marcelo Diamand during the 1970s and the 1980s. In particular, it assesses the concept of unbalanced productive structure, and its implications on income distribution, the general price level and output dynamics in Latin American countries, focusing particularly on Argentina. From our contribution emerges that Diamand's work is particularly relevant in understanding the current challenges faced by the Argentine economy in its aim to reach a sustained process of economic growth.

Keywords : Marcelo Diamand; unbalanced productive structure; stop-and-go cycles; external constraint; exchange-rate inflation.
