Abstract
WAINER, Andrés and BELLONI, Paula. Where is Latin America headed? Uneven development in the periphery in the globalization era. Cuad. Econ. [online]. 2016, vol.35, n.69, pp.555-581. Epub July 10, 2016. ISSN 0121-4772. https://doi.org/10.15446/cuad.econ.v35n69.54965.
The neoliberal hegemony of late last century has overshadowed Latin America's original theoretical approaches such as structuralism and dependency theory. Both neoliberal and "post-dependecy" approaches have postulated that national differences tend to disappear with globalization. This article argues another hypothesis: That instead of a "convergence" between Center and Periphery, a growing bifurcation of the Periphery is taking place. To test this hypothesis, we compare the performance of two regions: East Asia and Latin America.
