Abstract

HINCAPIE VELEZ, Guillermo David. Economic disparities and the role of the road system. Evidence for Antioquia, Colombia. Cuad. Econ. [online]. 2021, vol.40, n.83, pp.483-513.  Epub Oct 06, 2021. ISSN 0121-4772.  https://doi.org/10.15446/cuad.econ.v40n83.80608.

This paper shows evidence of the role of the road system in reducing economic disparities in a developing economy, with strong and general inequality problems such as those found in Colombia. Under the theoretical support of a reformulation of the Krugman model (1991) with primary, secondary and tertiary road densities, an estimate of a spatial conditional convergence equation is carried out for 125 municipalities in the department of Antioquia (Colombia). Estimates suggest that secondary road densities have a greater effect on reducing the economic disparities of the department.
