Abstract

MARINO, Juan José. Civil Engineering and the Deterioration of the Environment in Colombia. rev.ing. [online]. 2007, n.26, pp.65-73. ISSN 0121-4993.

The recent deterioration of the environment in Colombia is principally due to an accelerated demographic and economic growth with little State control. However, construction of infrastructure works has also significantly contributed to this situation. Environmental considerations have increasingly been taken into account in engineering projects in the last decades. It is up to the engineering profession to assume a set of values that will ensure environmental ethics which put the general interest and that of future generations before individual interests.

Keywords : Water-supply; highways; hydroelectric stations; waterpollution; reservoirs; professional ethics; environment management; civil engineering; environment; mining; dams.
