Abstract

LEON PALACIOS, Paulo César. Globalisation and capitalist restructuring: changes in the world and Latin-America. Innovar [online]. 2003, vol.13, n.21, pp.47-70. ISSN 0121-5051.

This article presents thoughts about the main changes in contemporary capitalism, in both world and regional settings, through reviewing the most recent literature as well the thinking of Marx, Braverman or Richta. This article is most suitable for those wishing to become familiar with the topic without having to wade through the typical essayist rhetoric concerning globalisation, or those already familiar with the topic but who are interested in acquiring a wider view trying to present this transcendental topic from different perspectives and provide fresh information. Even though it seem obvious to some of us, it must be said that problems regarding Colombian capitalism cannot be fully understood without assuming that it is an integral part of world capitalism. Why is this? Evidently, in addition to the fact that a nation has a place in the world’s economy and policy, it is clear that the more capitalism evolves, the more and greater its conditioning becomes regarding the main national settings. Having said this, then the article tries to provide some elements for responding to the question of what is world capitalism’s current conditioning regarding Colombia, despite not answering it. More exactly, an attempt is made to define which aspects of world capitalism must be looked at if a possible answer is to be given to such a question.

Keywords : Globalisation, contemporaneous capitalism; productive restructuring; informationalism; neo-liberalism.
