Abstract

RODRIGUEZ LOZANO, Gloria Isabel. Measuring relative efficiency in two of the Colombian economy’s sub-sectors between 1993 and 2002 using data envelopment analysis (DEA). Innovar [online]. 2003, vol.13, n.22, pp.121-136. ISSN 0121-5051.

This article presents the results of a study of efficiency according to the DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) model for companies belonging to the food-product preparation and vehicle sales’ sub-sectors during 1993-2002. It begins with an introduction to DEA analysis and how this is used in the study. It then makes a comparison of the most efficient companies according to DEA and those having the highest operating and net margins in 2002. The historical behaviour of the efficiency of a compendium of companies in these sectors which were efficient according to DEA during the period being analysed is contemplated. Those companies which have continued to be efficient for many years are also analysed.

Keywords : Relative efficiency; DEA; efficient frontier; subsector; net margin and operational margin.
