Abstract

SUAREZ TIRADO, Jorge. Relationships between organisations and stakeholders: the need for mutual interaction between different interest groups. Innovar [online]. 2007, vol.17, n.30, pp.153-158. ISSN 0121-5051.

This assay tries to explain the relationships and risks existing between organisations and stakeholders (interest groups). It also makes some observations regarding the classical approach proposed by Milton Friedman, without trying to explain the characteristics of the economic, political and social setting of the time (1970. It tries to argue that in the current circumstances (poverty levels, increased social gaps, environmental problems, etc.) then companies do have clear commitments to their stakeholders and the community in general, going far beyond simply producing profits for the owners. Some tools are then briefly presented for gauging a company’s impact on society and, particularly, on different stakeholders, such as surplus accounts and social balance, constituting the main tool for communication between a company and interest groups.

Keywords : stakeholder; social responsibility; sustainable development; incentive.
