Abstract

SILVA-DOMINGO, Luis  and  PONTET-UBAL, Norma. A Model that Integrates Competitive Strategies: Application to the Port Sector. Innovar [online]. 2010, vol.20, n.38, pp.45-56. ISSN 0121-5051.

Despite significant advances in the literature and in professional practice, theoretical models of competitive strategy have not yet reached maturity. In this work, the diverse visions regarding competitive strategy models are presented and discussed, defending the need for a development that would integrate the key aspects in the competitive position of organizations: the environment and the capacities of the organization. In this sense, the objective is to underline the potential of the integrated model of competitive strategies proposed by Parnell (2006), which still lacks sufficient empirical evidence. Through a theoretical reflection that conceptually applies the model to the port cargo sector - which is briefly described and analyzed - this work concludes that the referred-to model could be highly relevant to professional practice and therefore to academia.

Keywords : competitive strategies; market control; perceived value; inter-port competition.
