Abstract

QUINTERO-CAMPOS, Luz Jeannette. Theoretical Contributions for the Study of National Systems for Innovation. Innovar [online]. 2010, vol.20, n.38, pp.57-76. ISSN 0121-5051.

Given the importance that national, regional, sectorial and technological innovation has been gaining as a mechanism to promote science and technology policies in diverse geographical zones, it is important to identify the most outstanding theoretical developments in the study of this phenomenon, examine its usefulness and analyze the case of less developed countries, which have had different starting points in this process compared to the developed countries. Innovation systems have been studied from different perspectives: mainly economic theory, the concept of industrial districts, industrial sociology and the systems approach. This article specifically addresses the systems approach as an alternative theoretical framework for studying innovation processes.

Keywords : innovation; innovation system; national innovation system (NIS); regional innovation system (RIS); sectorial or regional innovation system; national learning system (NLS); science and technology indicators.
