Abstract

MURCIA-SANDOVAL, María Fernanda  and  GARCIA-MOLINA, Mario. Economic Groups and Productivity in Colombia, a Look at the Annual Manufacturing Survey. Innovar [online]. 2011, vol.21, n.40, pp.189-198. ISSN 0121-5051.

This work shows the differences in productivity among industrial establishments that belong to Colombian economic groups and the establishments of independent companies during the period 1995-2006. While productivity is higher for those that belong to groups than for independent ones, this is due to the fact that the former are in sectors that have greater productivity as opposed to being affected by the group to which they belong, which, in fact, turns out to have a negative effect according to the panel data. At the same time, the establishments in the groups tend to invest more heavily in fixed assets than do the independent establishments.

Keywords : economic groups; productivity; financing; Internal capital market.
