Abstract

FERNANDEZ-GUADANO, Josefina. Performance of Worker-owned Companies: a Labor Corporate Governance Model?Desempenho das empresas de propriedade de seus trabalhadores: Um modelo de governo corporativo laboral?. Innovar [online]. 2012, vol.22, n.43, pp.33-44. ISSN 0121-5051.

During times of crisis, worker-owned companies generate renewed interest as formulas to maintain employment and sustainability of the productive fabric of the areas where they operate. There is also growing interest in the economic literature to measure business performance and, based on possible differences, infer guidelines that would make it possible to increase business productivity, efficiency and competitiveness. For both reasons, this research work analyzes performance measured through different economic indicators at worker-owned companies and compares the results with those obtained by conventional capitalist companies. These results show that there are significant differences in diverse economic-financial variables congruent with the different structures of capital ownership of both types of companies, but that these are not determining factors when deciding in favor of a labor corporate governance model.

Keywords : Capital property structure; worker-owned companies; conventional capitalist companies; economic performance; productivity and solvency.
