Abstract

BRIDA, Juan Gabriel; PEREYRA, Juan Sebastián; PULINA, Manuela  and  SUCH DEVESA, Maria Jesús. Causality between Tourism and Long -term Economic Growth: a Critical Review of the Econometric Literature: une révision criti que de la littérature économétrique. Innovar [online]. 2013, vol.23, n.47, pp.53-64. ISSN 0121-5051.

This work contains a critical review of the main econometric studies that have focused on analysis of the relation of causality between tourism and long-term economic growth. The articles included test the co-integration of economic variables and study the causality according to Granger. This work shows that, in the cases reviewed, there is strong empirical evidence in favor of the hypothesis of tourism as a generator of long-term economic growth. However, this does not make it possible to form conclusions of a general nature regarding policy and planning implications.

Keywords : Tourism; economic growth; co-integration; Granger type causality.
