This paper is an introductory text that intends to understand what Organization Studies is. A historical contextualization of Organization Studies is carried out, followed by a discussion of its ontological, epistemological and methodological dimensions, as well as its object of study and the theoretical frameworks inscribed in this field of knowledge. The text draws attention to its pluridisciplinary nature and critical perspective, distinctive characteristics of the field. The paper ends with a reflection on the possibilities of Organization Studies as a complement for training in Management, and on the importance of spreading this comprehensive field of knowledge for the study of organizations in Latin America.
