DO NASCIMENTO, Sabrina  and  BEUREN, Ilse Maria. Managerial Effectiveness as Measured by Achievement of Goals Established in the Reward System and its Relation with Psychological Empowerment. Innovar [online]. 2015, vol.25, n.55, pp.59-73. ISSN 0121-5051.  https://doi.org/10.15446/innovar.v25n55.47196.

The goal of this study is to assess managerial effectiveness as measured by achievement of goals established in the reward system for employees and their relation with psychological empowerment in a multinational company. The presence of psychological empowerment is limited in this research to the four elements of Spreitzer's (1995): competence, impact, self-determination and meaning A descriptive research with predominantly qualitative approach was conducted in a company of American origin, established in southern Brazil. To collect the data two types of survey instruments were used: a) a questionnaire adapted from Spreitzer (1995), composed of 24 questions with seven-point Likert scale, to identify the perception of employee on psychological empowerment , and b) three scripts of interviews, applied respectively to the supervisor of human resources, financial accounting manager and import and export supervisor to measure the management effectiveness in the dimensions (performance standards, comparison of pairs and overall performance) proposed by Spreitzer (1995). The data collected through questionnaires were submitted to simple statistical analysis, mean and standard deviation, and the data collected through the interviews scripts were submitted to content analysis. Also, to establish the indicators of profitability and returns, data from the company's financial statements published on the website of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) were collected. It is concluded, based on the results of research, that psychological empowerment, according to Spreitzer's (1995) model, is related to managerial effectiveness as measured by achievement of goals established in the reward system for employees in the studied company.
