Abstract

WILCHES-SANCHEZ, Giovanna  and  RODRIGUEZ-ROMERO, Carlos Alberto. EVOLUTIONARY PROCESS OF CONGLOMERATES OR ECONOMIC GROUPS IN COLOMBIA. Innovar [online]. 2016, vol.26, n.60, pp.11-34. ISSN 0121-5051.  https://doi.org/10.15446/innovar.v26n60.55478.

According to the view of some theorists of the new "disorganized capitalism", who claim that the time of the Great Society, the Economic Groups or Conglomerates, with their carefully planned control and coordination structures, has come to an end, focusing on Law 222 of 1995 and the consequences of its effect on this particular type of industry and business structure in Colombia, this paper seeks to answer the following question: If economic groups or conglomerates should disappear, why in Colombia, with an open economy inserted in the Global Economy, these organizations rather than disappearing tend to thrive? This work starts from acknowledging economic groups as the object of study of researchers in Management Sciences and from an analysis of the different perspectives that have made possible its existence and permanence in the different economies, including the announcements of this model as a final first-level economic agent. Besides, it includes the proposal of objectives and the method used in the data analysis for understanding the evolutionary phenomenon of this type of organizations. Additionally, an analysis of the emerging concept of diversification is performed from the perspective of corporate strategy, gathering specific elements of the concept of economic group in different cultures and highlighting common elements found in the literature. As a converging topic in different economies, it is necessary to make a brief comparative review of the laws governing the operation of the analyzed structures for some countries, to finally focus on the evolution of Colombian law. Finally, this work gathers and analyzes the registration process of matrixes and subsidiaries in Colombia to account for the phenomenon of emergence and consolidation of economic groups in a particular economy, so we can conclude on accession or not of authors to the "announced end of these organizational structures".
