COLOMBAROLI CARNEIRO, Rudhi; GOMES SALGADO, Eduardo; SILVA PEREIRA, Aline Aparecida and DUARTE ALVARENGA, Augusto. Main risks of the development process in biotechnology. Innovar [online]. 2018, vol.28, n.70, pp.55-68. ISSN 0121-5051. https://doi.org/10.15446/innovar.v28n70.74448.
Biotechnology is a sector that directly influences the technological evolution of several other sectors. Due to the multidisciplinary nature of its knowledge base, trust has been considered one of the vital instruments for innovation processes and the development of new products, considering the high degree of competitiveness among companies and the variety of products launched daily into the market. Thus, an in-depth discussion is necessary in order to identify potential risks and their influence on the success of the development of new products, providing reliable information for decision-makers of biotechnological innovation companies as well as tools for the development of management strategies. The collected data were processed for the hierarchical construction of risks. Results show that the highest risks, according to experts' assessment, were related to the market (24.51%), followed by human resources (23.51%) and (16.29%). In contrast, the lowest risk levels were found for financial risk (13.27%), product requirements (12.47%) and production risk (9.99%).
