Abstract

PEREZ HERNANDEZ, Carla Carolina; MOHENO MENDOZA, Jessica  and  SALAZAR HERNANDEZ, Blanca Cecilia. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF ABSORPTIVE CAPACITIES IN MEXICO AND THEIR INFLUENCE ON THE GENERATION OF TECHNOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE. Innovar [online]. 2019, vol.29, n.72, pp.41-58. This paper seeks to examine the ideas-production function used for measuring the impact of macroeconomic indicators of the absorptive capacity and the stock of knowledge derived from technological results (measured in requested patents). For this purpose, we developed an econometric model using the fixed-effects panel data technique and collecting data from various public sources. A 17-year time series (2000-2016) and a timeless series were used to study 32 Mexican entities. Based on the econometric estimation, we identified that the quality of economic activities environment is the main driver in the generation of technological knowledge. Besides, the stock of human resources exhibits a positive but inelastic relationship with the generation of patents. The essential contribution of this work lies in the provision of empirical evidence at a subnational level regarding absorptive capacities, which is prone to influence better research, development and innovation policies for the region.

Keywords : Absorptive capacity; data panel; fixed effects; requested patents.
