Abstract

SANCHEZ OCAMPO, Euler; IACONO, Antonio  and  LEANDRO, Franciele Regina. INNOVATION MANAGEMENT IN TECHNOLOGY-BASED ENTERPRISES: THE CASE OF INCUBATED COMPANIES. Innovar [online]. 2019, vol.29, n.74, pp.71-84. ISSN 0121-5051.  https://doi.org/10.15446/innovar.v29n74.82062.

This article studies the behavior of innovation activities in technology-based companies (TBCS) that underwent an incubation process. In order to do this, we carried out an exploratory multiple-case study of six technology-based companies graduated from an incubator, using the three-step innovation management model: search, select and implement. The research highlights the role of the incubator in monitoring the execution of activities during the incubation phase as well as the behavior of companies that make part of the innovation management process. The results show positive and negative aspects of innovation management activities in the studied companies. Poor performance in applying procedures to study market opportunities and potential improvements in existing products were identified through the calculated indices. In addition, audits of innovation projects and R&D investment plans were recognized as the least standardized management tools for TBCS. Elements within the innovation management routines highlighted as positive were the joint ventures for the design of new products, the exchange of know-how and the leverage of technological capacities. Finally, EBTS showed a good performance in the index-linked to the implementation of tests, tests before the launch of new products and/or services to the market.
