SANCHEZ-ALZATE, James-Ariel. PET KEEPERS' CONSUMPTION HABITS IN VALLE DE ABURRÁ, COLOMBIA, BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER COVID-19 MANDATORY ISOLATION. Innovar [online]. 2023, vol.33, n.87, pp.11-26.  Epub 07-Fev-2024. ISSN 0121-5051.  https://doi.org/10.15446/innovar.v33n87.105499.

Pet products and services market is among the most dynamic and continues growing and incorporating specialized services that were previously considered exclusive to humans. However, as the COVID-19 outbreak spread globally, causing devastating effects not only on human health but on the global economy as well, this market remained almost unchanged. Through an empirical study consisting of a survey to pet keepers in Valle de Aburrá (Antioquia, Colombia), this work sought to identify consumption habits during and after mandatory isolation measures due to COVID-19, enacted by the Colombian government from March 25 to September 1, 2020, compared to pre-pandemic times. Although a larger sample size was expected, our results show that the pet market has shown a stable behavior, even during lockdown. With the foregoing, companies within this market are expected to study its related dynamics and be able to generate effective and efficient actions to increase sales, thus preserving the productive development of the studied region.
