Abstract

PATINO ARISTIZABAL, Luis Guillermo  and  CARDONA RESTREPO, Porfirio. Neopopulism: an Approach to the Colombian and Venezuelan Cases. Estud. Polit. [online]. 2009, n.34, pp.163-184. ISSN 0121-5167.

A comparative exercise from the political theory of the present governments of Colombia and Venezuela has allowed us to identify the resurgence of self-oriented leaders who have traits of classical Populism as well as those of the Neopopulism of the nineties. Such traits are part of the democratic political game in a globalized world, but they turn the arena of power relations in Latin America into something complex and paradigmatic in search of solutions to national and international conflicts.

Keywords : Political Theory; International Relations; Populism; Neopopulism; Power Relationships.
