Abstract

JARAMILLO MARIN, Jefferson. Experts and Commissions Study on Violence in Colombia. Estud. Polit. [online]. 2011, n.39, pp.231-258. ISSN 0121-5167.

This article is aimed at discussing how the experts and the commissions for the study of violence in Colombia generate frames for interpreting violence. In particular, the article focuses on the analysis of the "Comisión de Expertos" of 1987, and the "Subcomisión de Memoria Histórica" (2007-2012). The article critically addresses two set of ideas on the commissions for the study of violence following a socio-historical approach: First, they research the causes of violence and offer manners to left behind the sequels of violence, but simultaneously they tend to impose particular narratives on the past. Second, they make public the narratives on a violent past, even if their narratives are questioned by alternative researchers that consider them useful for preserving the status quo.

Keywords : Experts; Commissions Study on Violence; War; Violences; Memory; Colombia.
