Abstract

SANCHEZ GONZALEZ, Eliana. Disputes over the Memory. Victims and their Incursion in the Public Sphere. Medellín 2004-2010. Estud. Polit. [online]. 2013, n.42, pp.61-84. ISSN 0121-5167.

This article presents an approach to the process of memory building in the armed conflict developed by victims of paramilitary organizations and State Crimes in Medellin between the years of 2004-2010. This study derives from the analysis of interviews to members of the National Movement of State Crimes Victims (Movice) and the Association of Relatives of Missing Detainees (Asfaddes), the revision of the material produced and the attendance to public activities called by these organizations, among other document sources. The article is composed by four parts: the first one introduce the problem of memory in a collective, conflictive and social dimension; the second one approaches the universe of the victims of paramilitaries and State crimes in Colombia associated with the Movice and Asfaddes organizations; the third one addresses the subject of the public sphere and the processes of memory building; finally, some hypothetical considerations are proposed on the incursion of the victims and their organizations into the public discourses, as well as on the visibility or invisibility of their memories in the public sphere.

Keywords : Memory; Public Sphere; State Crimes Victims; Paramilitary Groups Victims; Victims Organizations; Colombia.
