The objective of this paper is to show that the State is the most appropriate way to resolve the threats of war and insecurity, which plague contemporary society. To support this approach, the article presents central elements of the political theory of Thomas Hobbes and it specifies how they can be used for diagnosis and explanation of these threats, and as well as to guidelines for facing them. The article emphasizes the concept of sovereignty and the discussions that have recently arisen around this author. Finally, it is concluded that the maintenance of this figure -sovereignty- will be essential to ensure order at the present time. The method of research is documentary analysis. From the identification of relevant political categories, the article realizes the state of corresponding things.
