Abstract

GONZALEZ MUNOZ, Carlos Andrés. Peace Talks Government-FARC-EP and the Possibilities for Peace in Colombia. Estud. Polit. [online]. 2015, n.46, pp.243-261. ISSN 0121-5167.

Since 2012 a process of peace talks and political negotiation has been held between the Government of Juan Manuel Santos and FARC-EP in Colombia. The process aims to end the armed conflict and open a path for State reforms and transformations in the Colombian society. This article questions the limitations and possibilities of the talks, understanding them as a dynamic process that has built a particular structure of opportunities within the overall national politics. These talks have brought about rearrangements of the political and social forces and political parties, as well as divisions in blocks of power, which raises questions about the final deal. The article highlights the reasons for the talks bearing in mind the power relations amongst actors, the rearrangement of blocks of power and the role of the social mobilization, setting a scenario for new movements and multiple institutional challenges.

Keywords : Peace Talks; Armed Conflict; Santos, Juan Manuel; FARC-EP; Colombia.
