Abstract
FARFAN MORENO, William. Compassion as a Normative Source for Victims' Rights. A Plea under the Framework of Political Philosophy. Estud. Polit. [online]. 2016, n.49, pp.112-131. ISSN 0121-5167. https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.espo.n49a06.
This article claims that compassion should be the source of law and morality in order to bring justice and peace as well as to protect victims' rights. First, the author contextualizes the concept of compassion in the scenario of the peace process in Colombia with the purpose of establishing the type of justice aimed at and its relation to victims' rights. Next, the author uses the framework of John Rawls' political philosophy and his theory of justice in order to analyze moral emotions and compassion in their relation to moral action. The author argues that compassion should be the ethos of the peace process, since it can further respect for the rights of victims and help to the recovery of their human, moral and civil dignity.
