A case of a young man with jaundice, severe hyperbilirubinemia and fever is presented. Evidence of spherocytes on peripheral blood smear and increased osmotic fragility test suggest the diagnosis of hereditary spherocytosis. The hyperbilirubinemia is produced by hemolysis which is the result of an infectious process. Once the diagnosis is done the answer for the treatment is favorable.
