Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the world and in Latin America. However, there is insufficient information about the prevalence and distribution of cardiovascular risk factors in Latin American population. The objective of this study is determined cardiovascular risk factors in patients assisted at the Ambulatory/outpatient Care Unit 309 in the city of Sucúa - Morona Santiago. This study used a quantitative, observational, and descriptive cross-section type/style. The study universe consists of a total of 732 patients treated at the Unit of Ambulatory Care 309 IESS. The sample consisted of 249 patients. A structured interview method was used. The technique was a survey of cardiovascular risk factors, with the data collection instrument being a form with instructional, socio-demographic variables, and variables. Finally, we observe that the cardiovascular risk appears low in most of the sample (96.8%), followed by a moderate cardiovascular risk of 2.8%, and finally a 0.4% of high cardiovascular risk. In conclusion, patients who had elevated cardiovascular risks, the associated factors that directly affects them are: nutrition (HDL serum cholesterol), BMI, diabetes, and systolic blood pressure. A better lifestyle and healthy eating habits could result in a better prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
