Abstract

LANDA DURAN, PATRICIA. Some Considerations on the Adoption of the Medical Model in Psychology: The Case of Evidence-Based Therapies. Rev. colomb. psicol. [online]. 2011, vol.20, n.1, pp.107-115. ISSN 0121-5469.

This paper takes up the argument regarding the inadequacy of the medical model as an ideologized practice of psychology in the area of abnormal behavior problems. Drawing on those behavioral approach arguments that are still valid, in favor of a functional analysis strategy, which is the cornerstone of behavioral assessment, the deprofessionalization is proposed as an alternative ideology to establish criteria for the application of psychological knowledge.

Keywords : behavioral analysis; contingency analysis; abnormal behavior; medical model; evidence-based therapies.
