Abstract
BENEVIDES SOARES, ADRIANA; GOMES, GIL and RODRIGUES PRATA, MARY ANNE. Social Abilities of Professors and Non-Professors: Comparison of Action Areas. Rev. colomb. psicol. [online]. 2011, vol.20, n.2, pp.233-248. ISSN 0121-5469.
The objective of this study was to compare the social abilities' repertoires of 527 professionals, including professors and non-professors, as well as the repertoires according to the professionals' action areas. The results of the Inventory of Social Abilities proposed by Del Prette (2001) did not reveal any differences in those abilities among professors according to their action areas. With respect to non-professors, the most skillful in risk-management (Factor 1) were those from the agricultural sciences, while those from the human sciences area displayed the highest skills in conversation and social development (Factor 3) and self-exposure to unknown persons or new situations (Factor 4). When comparing professors and non-professors, the latter were found to have the highest skills in Factor 1. With respect to Factors 2, (self-affirmation in the expression of positive affection), 3, 4, and total score, the human sciences professors proved to have better repertoires.
