Abstract

PINE, Adrienne  and  VIVAR, David. Tegucigolpe: Where roads cross, borders unite, and perceptions diverge. colomb.int. [online]. 2011, n.73, pp.25-47. ISSN 0121-5612.

This article examines the capital of Honduras-Tegucigalpa-focusing on its "twin cities" of Comayagüela and Tegucigalpa, examining the relationships between topographic and socioeconomic exclusion, structural and symbolic violence, and the application of neoliberal policies. It explores the city post-hurricane Mitch and post-coup d'État using historical and ethnographic data to shed light on Tegucigalpa, the troubled political center of a corporatizing State.

Keywords : FNRP; Giorgio Agamben; state of exception; Naomi Klein; disaster capitalism; Merrill Singer; culture of wealth; Mary Douglas; Nancy Scheper-Hughes; invisible genocide; Michael Taussig; usual terror.
