Abstract

ANGULO AMAYA, María Camila. Voting Intention and Party Preference in Bogota. colomb.int. [online]. 2016, n.86, pp.81-106. ISSN 0121-5612.  https://doi.org/10.7440/colombiaint86.2016.03.

This article presents an exploratory analysis of the relationship of mutual causality between electoral behaviour and party preference among the citizens of Bogota as a proxy for partisan identity. Specifically, it shows how party preference affects the voting decision of citizens, as well as how said decision also affects their preference for a particular political party. The analysis developed makes it possible to conclude that in political systems where political parties have little discipline, programmatic voting is not decisive in elections, which is why one is more likely to find a stronger connection between voting decision and party preference than vice versa.

Keywords : Elections; political behaviour; voting (Thesaurus); party identification (author's keywords).
