Abstract

MILANESE, Juan Pablo; ABADIA, Adolfo A.; RODRIGUEZ, Alejandro  and  CUERVO, Beatriz. Configuration of Electoral Support at the Municipal Level: An Analysis of Election Results for the Mayoralty of Cali, Colombia (2003-2015). colomb.int. [online]. 2017, n.90, pp.67-98. ISSN 0121-5612.  https://doi.org/10.7440/colombiaint90.2017.03.

This article analyzes the election results for the mayoralty of Santiago de Cali in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015. Based on premises of the sociological model of voting behavior and through the use of fuzzy sets and geo-referencing, it makes estimates regarding electoral behavior in relation to socio-economic status and levels of fragmentation exhibited by the different types of candidacy (elite-non-elite). Causal configurations are thus identified which, as sufficient conditions, contribute to demystifying widespread perceptions about the impact of some sectors of the city on the election of the mayor.

Keywords : Colombia; political participation; sub-national elections; Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA); fuzzy sets; geo-referenced analysi; Cali.
