Abstract

DEVOTO, Lisandro M  and  OLMEDA, Juan C. "Together and Mixed": Electoral Strategies and Party Coalitions for the Election of Local Deputies in Mexican States (2000-2016). colomb.int. [online]. 2017, n.90, pp.157-187. ISSN 0121-5612.  https://doi.org/10.7440/colombiaint90.2017.06.

Despite being a strategy that is widely used by political parties, the study of electoral coalitions is still incipient in Latin America. The few studies done until now regarding Mexico have focused on elections for executive offices or for seats as federal deputies. This article represents an initial analysis of coalitions for the election of local deputies, starting from an original base containing compiled information on 180 electoral contests from the 2000-2016 period. The data confirm that parties not only develop different strategies among states and over time, but even within diverse districts in the same election and in one and the same state.

Keywords : elections; Mexico; electoral coalitions; subnational politics; local deputies; system.
