The aim of this article is to analyze the development of neo-extractive industries in South America since the start of the current century and the role which it has played in emerging economies and domestic policies for promoting economic growth in each country. Using a qualitative methodology, it analyses, on the one hand, the growing influence of China in the region, its role in the advance of neo-extractive technologies and the economic, social and environmental consequences of that model; and, on the other, the increasing number of socio-environmental conflicts caused by “neo-extractivismo” in Latin America, with an emphasis on those in Córdoba (Argentina) and the social movements which oppose those technologies.
