Abstract

CHILITO, Eduardo Andrés. Indigenous Populations and the Local Elections in Four Municipalities of the Department of Cauca 2003-2015. colomb.int. [online]. 2018, n.94, pp.143-175. ISSN 0121-5612.  https://doi.org/10.7440/colombiaint94.2018.06.

This article presents a general view of the electoral behaviour of four Colombian municipalities with high indigenous population density. The study focused on the last four local electoral events that took place from 2003 to 2015. The manuscript showcases the electoral performance of the political organizations that run with an ethnic identity in the local sphere, mainly after the institutional changes promoted by the Political Reform of 2003. This political dynamic is supported by what is known as “electoral success”, and is based on the constant access to positions in corporations and popularly elected public positions.

Keywords : elections; Colombia; ethnic political parties; indigenous population.
