Abstract

FRENKEL, Alejandro  and  AZZI, Diego. Change and Adjustment: Argentina and Brazil’s Foreign Policy in a Changing World (2015-2017). colomb.int. [online]. 2018, n.96, pp.177-207. ISSN 0121-5612.  https://doi.org/10.7440/colombiaint96.2018.07.

This work provides a comparative analysis of Argentina and Brazil's foreign policy based on the Kirchner-Macri and Rousseff-Temer changes of government. Although there are differences between them, these governments have driven a rhetorical and practical transformation in the countries' outwards orientation, proposing, in contrast to their predecessors, a strategy that combines greater rapprochement with the US, increased trade openness, and a prerogative for insertion into global value chains. Nevertheless, the growing impugnation of the globalization process - expressed by phenomena such as Brexit and the victory of Donald Trump- would call to question the liberalization policies leading to new dilemmas in Itamaraty and Palacio San Martín.

Keywords : foreign policy; Argentina; Brazil; Donald Trump.
