International migration is an increasing tendency that has been growing each time faster in last two decades. Phenomenon of great importance for departure and destination countries. This article analyzes points of view of various authors whose have written about this topic, mainly considering economic determinants of international migration in Colombia and the consequences of this phenomenon over the last decades. The evidence found shows, first of all, that migration to developed countries or countries with higher levels of industrialization is each time more accelerated; secondly, that emigration in Colombia is explained for better labor and economic alternatives, and finally; that wage gap among industrialized countries and developing countries stands an important aspect when the decision of migration is being made.
