GOMEZ-POVEDA, Mauricio et al. Efficient Integration of Capacitor Banks for Minimizing Investment and Operation Costs in Medium Voltage Distribution Systems. Ciencia en Desarrollo [online]. 2025, vol.16, n.2, pp.39-52. Epub 20-Jul-2025. ISSN 0121-7488. https://doi.org/10.19053/uptc.01217488.v16.n2.2025.17667.
This article presents a hybrid master-slave methodology for the efficient integration of capacitor banks with the objective of minimizing investment and operation costs in medium voltage distribution systems. In the slave stage, the method of successive approximations is used to evaluate the optimal power flow. Meanwhile, in the master stage, the wild horse herd algorithm is implemented to locate and size the capacitor banks in the distribution systems. The hybrid methodology is applied test feeders composed of 33 and 69 nodes and compared with several metaheuristic algorithms. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm offers improved solutions compared to the other analyzed algorithms.
